Dead Bird 2 This dead bird painting, along with Dead Bird 1, shows Mary's characteristic matter-of-fact attitude toward death.  Later, she developed more complex ways to weave it into her paintings, with bones, demons, and eventually spiritual enlightenment and visions of heaven.
